Requirements for Rust Inhibitors

Requisites for Excellent Inhibitors:

  1. Easy solubility in dilute and/or concentrated acid solutions.
  2. High degree of protection to base metal at an economically feasible concentration.
  3. Excellent resistance to breakdown from heat, pressure, or high electrolyte concentration.
  4. A strong mixture of polar substances having a great affinity to the metal.
  5. No tendency to stain or cling to metal when rinsed.
  6. Ability to degrade in an acid regeneration process.
  7. Non-toxic.
